A pre workout coffee smoothie handles two pre-gym jobs at once: your usual caffeine and a full serving of electrolytes, blended into one cold cup. Cold brew, a frozen banana, milk, and one stick of Saltivate Raw Unflavored make a thick, frothy coffee shake with a foam cap like a shaken iced latte. The stick is plain, no flavoring, and its light salty edge deepens the coffee while 800mg of sodium, 240mg of potassium, and 60mg of magnesium replace what you lose in sweat.
Ingredients
Makes 1 large shake, about 20 oz (600 ml).
- 1 stick pack Saltivate Raw Unflavored (1 full serving)
- 1 cup (240 ml) cold brew or chilled strong coffee
- 1 cup (240 ml) milk of choice
- 1 frozen banana, broken into chunks
- 1 tbsp peanut butter (optional)
- 1 cup ice
- 1 to 2 tsp maple syrup (optional, to taste)
Instructions
- Add the cold brew, milk, frozen banana, Saltivate stick, and peanut butter (if using) to a blender.
- Blend on high for about 30 seconds, until completely smooth.
- Add the ice and pulse until thick and frosty, 15 to 20 seconds more.
- Taste. Add maple syrup if you want it sweeter and pulse once to combine.
- Pour into a tall cup and drink 30 to 60 minutes before your workout.
Serving suggestions and variations
- No frozen banana? Use 1/2 cup frozen mango or 2 pitted dates; you may want a little extra ice for thickness.
- Training in the evening? Swap in decaf cold brew and keep everything else the same.
- Make it ahead: blend everything except the ice the night before and refrigerate up to 24 hours. Shake well, then blend with ice in the morning.
Per serving: about 320 kcal (estimate).
