A margarita mocktail with electrolytes already in the glass: that is the whole idea here. The margarita earned its salt rim for a reason. This version skips the rim entirely. One Saltivate Orange stick dissolves into fresh lime and orange juice, so the first sip carries the faint salinity of a licked rim spread evenly through the drink instead of sitting in one gritty crust. Topped with cold sparkling water over ice, it takes about five minutes of hands-on time and makes two glasses. Each glass holds half a serving of Saltivate, about 400mg of sodium, a good way to put back what you sweat out on a hot afternoon.
Ingredients
Makes 2 mocktails, about 9 oz each.
- 1 stick pack Saltivate Orange (or 1 scoop)
- 4 oz (120 ml) fresh lime juice (about 4 limes)
- 2 oz (60 ml) fresh orange juice (about 1 orange)
- 1 tbsp agave syrup, optional
- 12 oz (350 ml) chilled sparkling water
- Ice
- 2 lime wheels, for garnish
Instructions
- In a small pitcher or jar, stir the Saltivate Orange into the lime juice and orange juice until fully dissolved, about 30 seconds.
- Taste the base and stir in the agave if you want it sweeter.
- Fill two rocks glasses with ice.
- Divide the citrus base between the glasses, then top each with 6 oz (180 ml) of sparkling water.
- Give each glass one gentle stir, garnish with a lime wheel, and serve. No rim required.
Tips
- For a sweeter version, swap the sparkling water for chilled limeade and skip the agave.
- Make the citrus base ahead and refrigerate it up to 24 hours; add the sparkling water just before serving so it stays lively.
- For frozen margarita mocktails, blend the base with 2 cups of ice instead of topping with sparkling water.
The salt here comes from Saltivate Orange on-the-go packets: 800mg sodium, 240mg potassium, and 60mg magnesium per stick, zero sugar, sweetened with Reb M instead of stevia. One box keeps 30 margarita nights stocked.
