This watermelon frosé swaps the usual simple syrup for a scoop of electrolyte powder. One scoop of Watermelon Saltivate brings watermelon flavor, light Reb M sweetness, and a faint salty edge that sharpens the strawberries the way a pinch of salt sharpens fruit. Frozen rosé cubes, frozen strawberries, and lemon blend into a soft pink slush thick enough to hold a paper straw upright, made for hot porch afternoons, and each glass carries about a quarter serving of electrolytes.
Ingredients
Makes 4 frosés, about 3 oz (90 ml) of rosé each.
- 1 scoop Watermelon Saltivate
- 2 cups frozen strawberries
- 4 oz (120 ml) cold water
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- Small watermelon wedges or strawberries for garnish (optional)
- 12 oz (350 ml) dry rosé, optional (swap in frozen watermelon cubes for zero proof)
Instructions
- Pour the rosé into an ice cube tray and freeze for at least 4 hours. The cubes stay slightly soft because of the alcohol; that is what you want.
- Stir 1 scoop of Watermelon Saltivate into the 4 oz (120 ml) of cold water until fully dissolved.
- Add the rosé cubes, frozen strawberries, Saltivate mixture, and lemon juice to a blender. Blend until smooth and slushy, scraping down the sides once if needed.
- If it blends too thin, return it to the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes and stir before serving. If it is too thick, add cold water 1 tbsp at a time.
- Divide among 4 glasses, garnish, and serve right away.
Serving suggestions and variations
- Zero proof version: swap the rosé cubes for 12 oz (340 g) of frozen watermelon cubes and blend as written. Same pink slush, no wine.
- Leftovers keep in a sealed container in the freezer for up to 24 hours. Let the container sit out for 5 minutes, then stir or re-blend.
- One scoop in about 16 oz (475 ml) of liquid is the strong end of Saltivate's 16 to 32 oz (475 to 950 ml) mixing range, which is what you want here; cold mutes flavor, so frozen drinks need the full-strength mix.
